2010 NOTY champ Barkevious Mingo puppetmaster Spencer Hall recently dubbed this year's field "the Brazil '70 World Cup team of NOTY classes." The first-round results support that lofty claim.
A No. 1 seed, Just-in'love Smith, was bounced, a first. And that was just the beginning of the carnage. Dinero Fudge. Melted. Aristotle Socrates. Outthunk. Napoleon Einstein. Waterlooed. Hannukkah Wallace. Shalomed. (For the record, it was Hitler (Makofane) over Stalin (Felipe) in the dictator bracket.)
Now to the Sweet 16. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but as NOTY friend and sportswriter Michael Weinreb (preorder his new book) recently Tweeted, the all-but-certain Nohjay Nimpson-X'Zavier Bloodsaw regional final "could be the Duke-Kentucky of our age."

Ah, it seems to be crystallizing already. Nimpson vs. the slayer of Speedy Nutz. This really should be no trouble for Nimpson, theoretically, but Bloodsaw is just one of those names. People are crazy for X'Zavier, for some reason.
With Selathious Bobo gone, all my support is vested in X'Zavier. If it were spelled "Xavier," though, I'd probably vote for Nohjay. It's all in the X'Z.

I won't be upset with a 1-2 pairing here, but Stonecipher got jobbed with a 12 seed. Did you forget that his middle name is "Trueblood?" He should have at least been single digits.
I still can't believe Selathious Bobo is gone. That was a crushing defeat. It made me lose a little faith in the NOTY voters. Seriously, "Selathious"? You couldn't make that up.
I agree that the loss of Selathious Bobo is a disgrace to NOTY, but now I'm all about the Nohjay Nimpson. She's going all the way.
Looks like the Regional Final could be heading for another Simpson encounter with a sharp object. Oh wait, it's Nimpson, not Simpson! :)
